My hero was born at the beginning of the 20^th century on a farm in America. He intended to become an engineer. However, discovering planes, he decided to learn to fly even if it was against the will of this father. He became a pilot and took part in flying demonstrations during air shows. Then, he joined the army in order to improve his pilot skills.

In my opinion, this man is a hero because his achievements were remarkable. The most amazing was on the day he became the first person to fly solo, non-stop, from New-York to Paris across the Atlantic Ocean! At the time it was a real feat, for several reasons. First, as regards navigation, he didn’t possess any kind of GPS. In fact, he used maps, the constellations and geological references. Furthermore, he flew off in bad weather, and his plane was overloaded with petrol. Also, he did not have enough to eat and drink. But, he was tenacious and had talent. Thirty-three and a half hours after take-off from NYC, he arrived safe and sound in Paris.

My hero was not only an outstanding pilot; he was also a real scientific genius: he invented an artificial heart!

I obviously admire my hero’s qualities. He was courageous. In 1927, it was a real feat to go solo from New York to Paris in a plane. He had heard that a New York City hotel owner was offering $25,000 to the first aviator to fly non-stop from New York to Paris. He took up the challenge, which shows he had real determination. And this was true of everything he undertook in his life. My hero was a pioneer; his legendary flight contributed to advancements in aviation. Indeed, he was in charge of the construction of his plane The Spirit of Saint Louis. In life, he was a fighter; he had the temerity to stop his engineer’s studies in order to do what he wanted to do: become an ace pilot. Also, he was very intelligent and able to meet new challenges head-on.

I want to become a pilot, just like my hero. He inspires me to do my best in order to do what I want to do later in life. He encourages me to overcome my limits and to never give up, to do everything in my power to achieve my ambitions and to never regret anything. My hero is Charles Lindbergh.
